On June 5th, we went into the hospital. They started the induction process that night. Well needless to say neither Brian or I got much sleep that night. I had an epidural, so I wasn't in any pain, it was just a lot of waiting and checking etc. The next day by late afternoon I was ready to push. The nurse told me that usually for first time moms it took about 1-3 hours for baby to come. Well I was exhausted and excited for my baby to be here, so I was determined to get her out of me. After 45 mins of pushing my baby was here!! They put her on my chest and I just cried. She was beautiful and perfect. Ten fingers, ten toes and big eyes that were open and ready to meet the world!! I was so filled with joy. This is the moment I have been waiting for, for so long.
When she was born, the doctor said that her umbilical cord was in a tight knot. He said that was more dangerous than even if she was breeched. My guess as to what happened, is that because of how active she was inside of me... with all her flipping around and dancing she had a loose knot, and then when she was born, it pulled the knot tight. There is no way she could have survived if that knot was tight like that...
When they took her over to clean her up, the nurse kept trying to get her to cry, but she wouldn't. She had a little bit of liquid in her lungs so they wanted her to scream it out, but she was just too content.
And that is pretty much how she still is. Always content and happy. She only cries if she is hungry or cold or tired. Once you take care of whichever need it is, she quiets right up.
Now we have her home and she is the light of our lives. She is such a good sleeper. For the past month she has been sleeping for 6-7 hours at night. Last night she slept the whole night. She had her last bottle at 7:30pm and was still asleep when my husband got up at 5am. It scared me to death when I realized it was morning and she hadn't woken up. I jumped out of bed to make sure she was breathing. She's doing really good at lifting her head now too. She loves looking around and holding her head up high whenever she gets the chance.
I love being a mom. It's the best job I have ever had!!
